As the Mt. Soledad Memorial Association remains true to our commitment of “Honoring Our Veterans By Preserving Their Legacy”, we stand firm with our patriotic values and principles which provide the bedrock of our organizational pillars. As we gather in these challenging times to celebrate Independence Day, let us re-commit ourselves to ensuring the legacy of the Memorial remains the most prominent beacon of freedom within our community.
We know that many citizens of San Diego and visitors to our beautiful city make it a point to visit the Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial, especially on the 4th of July. I invite you to come to the “Mount” and experience the extraordinary freedoms which we enjoy and are so grateful to share.
Most folks understand that when visiting the Memorial there is an expectation to honor and respect the solemn nature and dignity of service to our great nation. That spirit which is portrayed by the faces and stories of more than 5,000 veterans on the Memorial walls must never be forgotten. This spirit being foremost, folks are especially considerate of the families who hold the memorial plaques of loved ones so close to their hearts. We are very appreciative of the thousands of visitors who tour the memorial each year, whether a first-time visitor or a more frequent visitor. It is a very humbling and inspirational experience for all. We are forever thankful for your loyal support.
I would ask that when you do visit to be considerate of others and abide by the local health advisories. I am confident that after you stroll along the walkways that you will be inspired and especially committed to thank all of our veterans for their selfless service and sacrifices. On behalf of the Board of Trustees, staff and volunteers, I sincerely convey my best regards to you and your families on this Independence Day. In the meantime, remain healthy and enjoy this great day.
Sincerely,
Neil O’Connell
