Awarded a total of 21 battle stars for service in World War II, Korea and Vietnam, as well as five expeditionary medals, the "Fleet's First Lady" served in every Pacific Theater major operation from Doolittle's raid over Tokyo, the shores of North Vietnam, to other operations in the Pacific. This ship was the senior Naval ship on continuous active duty service when decommissioned. She provisioned and refueled more ships than any other fleet oiler.
