We commemorate the 876 young men who graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy on 5 June 1963. They forged a brotherhood forever linked to one another as participants in key moments and events in American history.
While serving in all four services, 13 classmates were lost in combat, 15 more died in the line of duty and two were Vietnam POWs.
In peace and war, their sacrifices are embedded in Academy lore and remembered by a grateful nation. Their leadership and example extended well beyond the defense of our country. The men of the Class of 1963 assumed the highest responsibilities of citizenship and public service, upholding an enduring sense of duty to their communities and to the nation. In doing so they embraced the Academy's highest ideals of duty, honor and loyalty.
The Class established the Class of 1963 Foundation to assist families of deceased classmates in funding their educational needs. Later the Foundation became a primary source for financing the Class of 1963 Center for Academic Excellence at the Naval Academy. This Center will remain the living legacy of the class and an inspiration to future Academy graduates.
