MEDALS-RIBBONS: World War II Victory, American Campaign, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign

Our Hero in war and life, Samuel served in the Pacific Theater, Hawaii, Mariana Islands and Saipan as an Airborne Equipment Radar Repairman.

Sam was born on  July 9, 1922 in Boston, Mass,   (this service is on his 94th birthday)

Served in World War II in  the U.S. Army Air Force from 1942 – 1945.  He served as a Tech Sergeant in Hawaii, Marianna Islands and Saipan as an Airborne Equipment Repairman.  He earned the American Campaign and the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign medal/ribbon  (not sure if it is a medal or a ribbon)

At 20 years old, while on leave from the service,  he married his sweetheart,  Bernice Clemens.

After returning from war, Sam, Bernice and their 9 month old baby, Harriet moved to Los Angeles arriving in May of 1948. 

Their second daughter, Janice was born in 1951 in Los Angeles

Sam started several business enterprises founding National Security Mortgage Company of which he was President and CEO for 20 years. National Security Mortgage had locations in Los Angeles and San Diego.

He retired in 1984 to Rancho Mirage, California

Bernice passed away in 1994 and Sam married Roz Gayler in 2007

Sam has been retired and living in Rancho Mirage for the past 39 years.  In retirement, Sam has accomplished the following:

He served on the Board of Trustees for the Children's Discovery Museum and The Institute of Critical Medicine.

He  served on the City Planning Commission, 2 terms on the Housing Commission, the Historical Preservation Committee. and the Fair Practices Commission

He received the following awards:

                                                    Rotary International  4  areas of service citation and

    Rotarian of the Year 2 years in a row;

   The Anita B. Richman Lifetime Achievement  Award,

   County of Riverside Senior Citizens Inspiration Award; 

   Commendations from the Governor of California,

   2 US Senators and the Representative from my district.

  Citizen of the year award from the Rancho Mirage Chamber of Commerce,

Received the  Key to the City of Rancho Mirage City Council.

Sam has 2 children,  9 grandchildren,  3 great grandchildren and is a loving husband.

He currently resides in Rancho Mirage with his lovely wife Roz.
