Retired U.S. Air Force Veteran, TSgt Kevin Smith, passed away on January 3, 2021. He was a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was born in San Diego, California to Ronald and Marsha Smith. Those that knew him would often say he was a brave and genuine man with a heart of gold, fun-loving and hardworking. He enlisted in the United States Air Force as a Biomedical Equipment Craftsman, proudly serving his county for 20 years.

Upon graduating Basic Training, Kevin was stationed at March Air Force Base, California. Next, he was stationed to Zweibrucken, Germany at the 609th Contingency Hospital for nearly three years. In Zweibrucken, he was responsible for the maintenance of more than $500,000 worth of War Readiness Material activated to support Desert Storm.

Kevin was then stationed to Keesler Air Force Base, Mississippi, where he served as both Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge of the Scheduled Maintenance and as the Regional Coordinator for the Medical Equipment Repair Center. His responsibilities included the coordinating and overseeing of all scheduled maintenance performed within Keesler Medical Center and its 40-Active Duty, Reserve, and National Guard Medical Treatment Facilities throughout the Southeastern United States and Panama.

Next, he was assigned to the DoD Biomedical Equipment Repair Course, 382nd TRS, Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas as the Air Force Senior Instructor. He was responsible for the annual instruction of 275 tri-service students and was a qualified instructor in blocks 8, 10, and 12. He was a regarded instructor, mentor and admired by his students.

During his time in the military, he also received a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Business Management from Wayland Baptist University. From March Air Force Base to Sheppard Air Force base, he created many lifelong friendships and memories. He warmly kept in touch as best he could with friends he met along his career and fondly reminisced of his days in the military.

After retiring honorably, he was recruited as an Installation Service Engineer for Siemens Healthineers. He continued his career with Siemens for seventeen years where he was a dedicated member of the team and highly respected by all of his colleagues.

He loved spending time with his friends, family and rooting on the San Diego Chargers. He was an avid book reader and without a doubt a great story-teller. He was devoted to being the best Dad to his daughter and Opa to his grandson. Kevin touched the lives of so many people he knew and loved. He is missed dearly and memories with him are cherished by all fortunate to have known him.
