Cited for bravery, Platoon Sergeant R. S. Harlan served in France during WW I. He was mustered out of the Army Corps on 28 September, 1919. During WW II, he enlisted again, this time to be a member of the US Marine Corps sationed at Camp Miramar. He joined the Civil Service after the war, remaining in San Diego until his death in 1980.
