Staff Sgt John F. Nunes served in the 16th Infantry Regiment of the Army’s First Division. He served from February 3rd, 1942, to February 8th ,1946. He was a veteran of service in Algeria-French, Morocco, Tunisia, Sicily, Normandy on D-Day, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. Five overseas bars.
Medals – Ribbons, Distinguished Unit Badge, Combat Infantryman Badge, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 8 Bronze Services Stars, Purple Heart, Silver Star Medal, Bronze Star Medal, American Theater Ribbon, World War II Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
John was awarded the Silver Star Medal for saving 30 American soldiers, in Germany Hurtgen Forest.
