R.J. Coleman

R.J. Coleman born on February 19, 1932, in Indian Hill just outside of Wiergate, Tx. to the late Ocie and Zola Mae Coleman (he’s an only child).

R.J. graduated from Jamestown High School in 1948 at the age of 16.

In 1952, R.J. moved to San Diego. He started working for the City of San Diego in 1954. 

In 1955, R.J. joined the National Guard, one year later he was drafted into the Army. He served as a Transportation Specialist, a Squad Leader, and Platoon Leader. As the Leader he oversaw the daily commitments and ensured they were completed. He spent most of his service time in Korea (right after the Korean War). He served 3 years of active duty.

Following his military service, R.J. took that same military ethic “You call we haul,” worked and furthered his education by earning his Associate Degree. He retired from the City of San Diego as a Supervisor after 40 years of employment. Throughout the years, R.J. mentored countless people, gave advice, and an ear to listen if anyone needed. He is also an adamant fisherman. On June 16, 2005, at Otay Lake he caught an 88.9-pound blue Catfish (which was a record)!

R.J. and Celia (always in our hearts) enjoyed 66 years of marriage together. They have 2 handsome sons (Ronald and Ventice), 2 daughters-in-law,    7 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.

R.J. Coleman has the utmost love and respect from all his family and friends.
R.J. you proudly served the Military and his country.
