As a member of the 4025th Signal Service Battalion with the Army Signal Corps, Joseph S. Regenfuss was assigned to New Guinea where his responsibility was intercepting Japanese Morse Code messages to decipher and translate. He was then sent to the Philippines as a Radio Operator (Station WVVS) on Bataan Peninsula; setting up the radio station in a bombed-out building until the war ended.

Awarded Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Unit Emblem, American Campaign Medal, Asian-Pacific Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, WWII Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal (Japan), Philippine Liberation Medal, Philippine Republic Unit Citation Badge and Honorable Service Lapel Button, Honorable Discharge.
