Cold War & Cuban Missile Crisis
Served with 9th Engineer Battalion from 1959-1961 at Aschaffenburg Germany in the enormous Maneuver Wintershield in February and March, 1960 & 1961, as a Corps-level Engineer Low Speed Radio Operator and Commo Chief, and as part of the 7th Engineer Brigade helped deter a Communist invasion of West Germany during the Cold War and a Nuclear clash of the superpowers on German soil. 
From 1961-1962 served with 489th Engineer Battalion assigned to Third U.S. Army at Fort Benning, Georgia to support the Cuban Missile Crisis confrontation between the United States and the Soviet Union which escalated into an international crisis when American deployments of missiles in Italy and Turkey were matched by Soviet deployments of similar ballistic missiles in Cuba.
