MEDALS-RIBBONS: European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign, World War II Victory
Max, being multi-lingual (French and Italian) when he enlisted, was trained in cryptology and intelligence and served in Tunisia, North Africa and in the invasion of Sicily with General George Patton's 7th Army. Max then served in Italy with General Mark Clark's 5th Army in the Battle of Monte Cassino, the Liberation of Rome, the Gothic Line Campaign and the Liberation of Florence and Verona. In Italy he was assigned to the 849th Signals Intelligence Services.
