Mario Lucarelli, an Italian citizen of the United States, entered military service on December 15, 1942 at Fort Hayes, Ohio. After basic training at Camp Crowder, Missouri he became a naturalized American citizen and was deployed overseas to the Asiatic/Pacific Theater. As a member of the 1096th Signal Corps, Mario participated in operations in Papua New Guinea, the Southern Philippines, Leyte, Luzon and Okinawa. He also served as an occupying force in Japan after the war. Mario was separated from the service on December 9, 1945 at Camp Atterbury, Indiana.
