Sergeant Winslow served as an infantryman with Company A, 3rd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division in the Kontum Province, Vienam. During a reconnaissance mission, his squad was fired upon wounding several of his men, ioncluding himself. Gallantly, Sergeant Winslow directed fire back at the enemy. Finding his platoon leader and platoon sergeant dead, he took command and directed gunship support against the enemy forces.
