ALBERT H. HOM, at age 27, joined the U.S. Army National Guard of
California, serving from 1952 – 1958. He held the rank of Sergeant. The National
Guard is part of the reserve components of the United States Armed Forces. It is a
reserve military force, financed by the Federal Government. National Guard units
can be mobilized for federal active duty to supplement regular armed forces
during times of war or national emergency. They have constant training and
serve in various areas. In San Diego, Albert Hom worked in providing food
services and also served in the artillery division.
