Senior Chief Engineman Cruz joined the Navy out of Quezon City, Republic of the Philippines in 1959. He ransferred to the Fleet Reserve after 20 years of active duty in the U.S. Navy Submarine Sevice in June, 1979. He served as a Refigeration and Airconditioning Mechanic, Diesel Engine Inspecor, MCD Supervisor, Machine Tool Operator and Radiation Monitor.
