Fireman Fist Class Frank Michael Greco was assigned to Landing Unit 30 during the invasion of Attu Island, Alaska in1943 in an attempt to dislodge he occupying Japanese forces. He ferried units of the 17th Infanty Regiment, 7th Infantry Division from ship to shore and evacuated some of the wounded. In this operation, U.S. forces suffered 3,929 casualties, 549 were killed, 1,148 were injured, 1,200 had severe cold injuries and 614 succumbed to infectious deseases.
