Joseph Pirrello, SR is a first-generation Italian American. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in World War II and deployed to Europe serving in England and Iceland before volunteering for India Company, 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment. He was wounded in action at the Battle of the Bulge in the winter of 1945. He earned the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.
