Mario landed at Utah Beach D+15 with the First Army 3rd Replacement Depot. His unit billeted in a cratered field in Géfosse-Fontenay before moving through France, Belgium and Germany. He came under enemy fire at the Battle of the Bulge. In 2016, Mario returned to Normandy and met villagers who had been teenagers during the war. They expressed their deepest gratitude that the American army liberated France. They toasted him with Calvados, gave him an old photo, and then led him to his old farm field. Mario received five bronze service stars.
Mario served with the Quartermaster

of Normandy and the Ardennes,
where he came under enemy fire at
the Battle of the Bulge.
