Louis R. Alcocer served in the United States Army during World War II. He was drafted into military service following the United States’ entry into the war and was assigned to Company B, 772ndTank Battalion. He served in the Central Europe Campaign, where armored units played a critical role in advancing Allied operations across occupied territory. During his service, Corporal Alcocer served as a tank gunner, a position responsible for operating and maintaining the tank’s primary weapons systems during combat engagements. On March 31,1945, he was wounded in action in Weinheim, Germany, when an enemy Panzerfaust struck his tank, causing an internal explosion. He received medical treatment and continued his service until the conclusion of his enlistment. Corporal Alcocer completed approximately three years of active-duty service and was honorably discharged from the United States Army. His military service reflects the significant contributions of armored forces during World War II and the sacrifices made by soldiers serving in forward combat roles. In recognition of his service and sacrifice, the City of Tolleson, Arizona issued an official proclamation honoring Louis Alcocer for his distinguished military service during World War II.
