MEDALS-RIBBONS: World War Il Victory
John H. Miller, Jr was born on April 6, 1924 in Philo, Ohio to John H. Miller, Sr and Emma (Mautz) Miller. He was one of eleven children and grew up on their family farm. He enlisted in the United States army in September of 1943 and became a member of the 601st Aircraft Artillery Gun Battalion. He saw combat in Normandy, Northern France, and the Rhineland. He received 4 bronze stars, a good conduct medal and a WWII victory medal. He was honorably discharged on January 9th, 1946. After the war, he eventually moved to Columbus, Ohio where he met Melvie Benson. They married in Columbus on July 1, 1960. They had one daughter, Sandra and remained married for many years. John worked as a silk screen specialist for Fletcher Poster Company in Columbus. He worked there for many years until he retired. After retirement, he spent a lot of his time listening to classical music and teaching himself to play the keyboard. He also enjoyed painting and photography. John was a very quiet and intelligent man who loved to spend time with his beloved grandsons, William "DC" Clifton and Ryan Clifton. He was fondly called Grandad!! John passed away on November 18, 2004 at the age of 80. He was survived by his wife, Melvie, his daughter, Sandra and his grandsons, DC and Ryan.
