PFC Hanlon served with the 455th Anti-Aircraft Artillery (Autopmaic Weapons) Battalion as a Gun Crewman. His Battalion provided air defense against enemy aircraft using 40mm Bofors guns and .50 Caliber machine guns. He participated in the campaigns to liberate Normandy, Northern France and the Rhineland (Germany).
