MEDALS-RIBBONS: Good Conduct
As a civilian fireman, Fred was accustomed to running toward danger. Born in Woodlandville, MO in 1919, he moved to Denver, CO in 1936. He married Imogene Baer in 1938 and they had 5 children. He became a firefighter for the Denver Fire Department in 1942 and enlisted in the Army in 1944. He arrived in Europe just weeks prior to D-Day as part of the 48th Armored Infantry Battalion fighting through the Battle of the Bulge until the Allied victory. He continued to serve as a firefighter after he returned from the war until 1971 when he retired as Captain of Station 13. He passed away in 2001 with 13 grandchildren who loved him dearly.
