MEDALS-RIBBONS: National Defense Service

Sharon nursed all who needed care at Bethesda Naval Hospital during the Vietnam War.

Sharon Simmons before entering the Navy studied Nursing in her home state of Michigan. Upon entering the Navy Sharon became a Navy Corpsman and served her country at the Bethesda Naval Hospital in Maryland. Sharon was inspired to serve her country because of my dad's service to our country and my dad was so very proud of my sister Sharon. While at Bethesda Sharon cared for the wounded veterans who were brought there from the Vietnam war. The Bible says Blessed are the merciful for they will be shown mercy.

These two-family veterans and our family’s heroes are honored here today as Father and Daughter at this great memorial. Steve and Sharon also now have the distinction as the first Father and Daughter Veterans to be honored here at Mount Soledad.
