Born and raised in Texas Kennedy Lavelle Turner entered the U.S. Navy in 1981 operating as an armament/ordnance intermediate maintenance technician, he served proudly on the USS Ranger CV61 then stationed at Moffett Field California, and Reenlisted in May of 1987, at which he served aboard the USS Enterprise until July of 1992 when he was honorably discharged. He recalls a specific hardship while aboard the USS Ranger, " I had the greatest times of my life! There couldn't have been a better crew to serve with. I still can remember the crew really coming together when we had that big ass fire aboard the ship. 122 consecutive days out to sea was not fun!"
