A proud American, Jim served his country with dedication and loyalty. A skilled Electrician's Mate, he served on USS Douglas A. Munro. Prior to being discharged he was sent to San Francisco to lead a team restoring the electronics on the USS Belleau Wood (CVL-24) before it was given to the French. Due to his well-developed leadership skills displayed during
this assignment, Jim was piped off the Belleau Wood as he left, an honor reserved for senior officers.
