Edward served both ashore and at sea. He inspected personnel and cargo arriving into the port of Honolulu, while also issuing Merchant Marine documents and monitoring the seaman arriving and departing from the port. Subsequently assigned to Coast Guard Cutter G83455C in Miami, Edward participated in numerous search and rescue operations in the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico.
