Charles atended Interior Communications Electrician "A" School in Great Lakes, IL. Upon completion of his training, he was assigned to the USS WARDEN (DLG-18) based out of San Diego, CA. During his time in WARDEN he toured the Western Pacific twice, spending many weeks in the Tonkin Gulf off Vietnam.
