Alan Holoubek

Alan James Holoubek was born, February 8, 1946 in San Francisco, California.  Alan grew up in Plattsmouth Nebraska with his father and stepmother.  

Alan enlisted in the United States Navy in 1966 from his hometown of Plattsmouth, Nebraska, choosing to volunteer for military service two days before being drafted. After discussing his decision with his father, who had in the Navy, Alan proudly answered the call to serve his country in the United States Navy. 

Following his enlistment, Mr. Holoubek attended Recruit Training at the United States Naval Training Center in San Diego, California. Upon graduating from basic training, he received orders to the USS Currituck (AV-7), a seaplane tender that provided maintenance, repair, and logistical support for U.S. Navy seaplanes operating throughout the Western Pacific.

Mr. Holoubek traveled to Yokosuka, Japan, where he joined the USS Currituck before the ship deployed to Cam Ranh Bay, Republic of Vietnam. Assigned to Division One as a Boatswain's Mate, he performed essential seamanship duties that supported the ship's operational readiness during the Vietnam War. He served aboard the USS Currituck for approximately one and a half years during his first overseas deployment.

Following the completion of that deployment, the USS Currituck was selected for decommissioning. The ship returned to Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo, California, where Mr. Holoubek assisted in the decommissioning process between late 1967 and 1968.

Afterward, Mr. Holoubek was selected for training as a Postal Clerk. Upon completing his specialized schooling, he returned to Vietnam for a second tour of duty. From 1969 to 1970, he was stationed at Camp Tien Sha in Da Nang, where he served for one year, providing vital postal services that supported military personnel deployed throughout the region.

In 1970, Mr. Holoubek returned to California and was honorably discharged from active duty after faithfully serving his country during a critical period in American history. He subsequently completed an additional two years of service in the United States Navy Inactive Reserve, fulfilling his military obligation with honor and distinction.

Mr. Holoubek's service reflects the dedication, professionalism, and commitment exemplified by the men and women of the United States Navy. His contributions during two tours of duty in Vietnam stand as a testament to his patriotism and enduring commitment to serving the nation.
