After High School, Mervin Lee Martin proudly joined the United States Navy and proudly served his country as a Disbursing Clerk aboard the U.S.S Prairie in the Korean War. He received the Navy Good Conduct Medal for stayingup all night completing payroll records for a crew of sailors that had their minesweeper shot out from under them.
Mervin was responsible for all receipts and expenditures on the USS Prairie. His ship, a tender, was part of
hurried operations supporting UN Forces. He was specifically recognized for his attention to the needs of the USS Grapple
