Fisherman to Navy Sailor - When World War II started his Sicilian-American father's fishing boat was requisitioned by the U.S. Government in Monterey, CA. John provided the expertise in operating and maintaining the ship. After Pearl Harbor there were ten submarine attacks along the coast of California. John's ship was tasked to patrol up and down the Pacific Coast looking for enemy activity. The boat was also used to tow targets for Naval Aircraft bombing practice. John proudly served his country during wartime. He lives on in our hearts as a hero.
