MEDALS-RIBBONS: American Theater Campaign, World War II Victory
Sidney L. Holmes enlisted in the US Navy on October 13, 1942 and received an Honorable Discharge on December 16, 1945. He served on the aircraft carrier USS Manila Bay, which received heavy damage from Japanese kamikaze aircraft in the Pacific Theater of Operations during World War II. Mr. Holmes received a deep sea diving certificate as a Navy Diver during his service. His highest rank was Metalsmith 1st Class. He received the Victory Medal WWII Asiatic Theatre. For the rest of his life, Mr. Holmes enjoyed attending periodic reunions of the crew of the USS Manila Bay.
