Master Sergeant Sturgent served during WWII and during the Korean Era. In WWII he served with the 151st Infantry Regiment, 38th Infantry Division in operations to secure New Guinea. He then participated in the liberation of the Philippines and the Batle of Leyte ad Luzon.
