Florence enlisted in 1943, unknowingly becoming one of the first women to join the Marines. She served 8 years, in 2 separate tours during WWII and Korea, to East and West Coast bases. She left her beloved Marine Corps and worked as a civilian for 33 years at MCRD, San Diego.
