Paul served in WWIl as a courageous C-47 transport pilot in North Africa, then as a B-29 bomber pilot, based in India and China. Flew in the first B-29 raid of the war over Bangkok as well as 15 bombing missions directly on Japan, and other targets in Southeast Asia.

The Distinguished Flying Cross with OLC for heroism and his gallant actions in bombing Japan
