Information Officer aboard the USS Shangri-La, CVA-38, for two years. During
his deployment to the Mediterranean with the Sixth Fleet, he earned the Silver
Anvil Award for his communications between the Navy and the French Media
After "the Shang" had a major Oil spill Off the pristine beaches Of the French
Riviera in 1965.
