John was deployed to the South China Sea aboard the USS Mars (AFS-1) and was involved in Vietnam Defense and Vietnamese Counteroffensive efforts as a Combat Information Center Officer. His Navy service was a source of pride and cemented a lifelong love of the sea that he shared with his family. He is loved and missed beyond measure.
