LT Joseph Joerg was commissioned as an Ensign in the U.S. Navy shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor. He was assigned to radar schools at Harvard and MIT in Boston. Following the completion of that training, he was transferred to the Naval Base at Norfolk, VA where he taught radar operations to the fleet. After 2.5 years at Norfolk, he was transferred to the Naval Base Pearl Harbor teaching radar operations for the remainder of the war.
