Holland served with pride and diligence on USS Norfolk, an experience that prepared him for his later combat duties in Vietnam. As a Deck and Gunnery Officer on board the USS Harnett County, he supported the Navy river boats and the renowned HAL-3 Seawolves in their missions to interdict enemy traffic and served valiantly during the 1968 Tet Offensive.
