Beginning his military career in 1943 by serving in WWII, assessing the aftermath of the bombing of Hiroshima and witnessing the nuclear tests at Bikini Atoll, he had first-hand knowledge of many historic events. As an electronics and communication specialist, he served on several ships prior to being assigned to the Beach Jumper/UDT unit in La Jolla. As a communications officer, he and his family were stationed in San Diego, Long Beach, Island California, as well as Brooklyn New York, Yokosuka Japan, and Athens Greece before retiring in 1970.
