MEDALS-RIBBONS: Combat Action, American Defense Service w/Star, American Theater
Lt. Commander Kenner came to general quarters during the Attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7th. Within
hours he was conducting anti-submarine warches on the USS Phelps. The USS Phelps earned 12 Battle Stars
for combat action including the Battle of Midway, Bougainville, Coral Sea, Attu, Gilbert Islands, the Marshall
Islands, Palau, and Saipan.
On December 7, 1941, William's ship the USS Phelps alerted to general quarters within hours he was conducting anti-submarine searches. Williams survived the attack on Pearl Harbor and went on to serve with the USS Phelps earning 12 battle stars for combat action at Bougainville, Salamaua-Lae, Coral Sea, Attu, Gilbert Islands, Marchall Islands, Palau, and Saipan. He concluded his duties with four convoy escorts in the Mediterranean Sea.
