Lt. Commander William James “Jim” Wadley was born on September 27, 1936. Following in his father’s footsteps, Jim enlisted in the U.S. Navy on June 27, 1955 and trained as an Electronics Technician. In June 1959, while assigned on the U.S.S. Tweedy at Pensacola, Florida, Jim’s enlistment expired. Following four years of active duty, Jim transitioned to the U.S. Naval Reserve where he was commissioned as an officer. As a Reservist, Jim served as an Air Intelligence Officer Helicopter Combat Support Squadron NINE (HC-9) SAR, Naval Air Station North Island, San Diego. HC-9 was a Naval Air Reserve Force Squadron (RESFORON) and the only Strike Rescue squadron in the United States Navy. While Jim’s squadron was based in San Diego, he often trained and participated in exercises at NAS Fallon, Nevada, and MCAS Yuma, Arizona. Jim received several medals and ribbons, including the Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation, theNavy “E” – Battle Efficiency Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Services Medal, and the Naval Reserve Meritorious Service medal for his exemplary conduct, efficiency, and fidelity throughout his military service. On January 18, 1980, Jim was placed on the U.S. Navy Retired list and advanced to the rank of Lieutenant Commander. In addition to serving their country, each valiantly served their families as Father, Son & Grampy.
