Native Son of Janesville, Iowa exemplified an outstanding career in the United States Navy. Wayne was awarded his Naval Flight Wings as a Naval Aviator and Commissioned as an Ensign 13 January, 1945. During World War II he served aboard the USS Princeton, CV-19, Attack Squadron 14-A and Torpedo Squadrons SQ-81 and 97. From 1951 - 1953 he was stationed aboard the USS Valley Forge, CV-45, Task Force 77, Fighter Squadron SQ-194 flying combat air operations over Korea during the Korean conflict. After the war, he was assigned to the USS Lexington, CVA-16, the “Blue Ghost” and served as the Assistant CIC Officer. After 23 years of service he retired with an Honorable Discharge 30 June, 1965.
