Rex Dean Werking hails from a family with a tradition of military service to the United States of America. Following graduation from Highland High School in Anderson Indiana in 1972, he enlisted in the United States Air Force as a Medical Service Specialist and received basic and advanced training in Radiology. He was then permanently assigned to the Nellis Air Force Base Hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada and served the next three years in the Radiology Department. Following his honorable discharge from the Air Force, he utilized his GI Bill privileges and completed his college education with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Services Management at Indiana University and then with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in General Psychology from Purdue University. Rex then returned to active military service, his original calling.
Rex was commissioned into the United States Navy Medical Service Corps in January 1982 and completed a very distinguished and personally rewarding 20 year career serving his country retiring in March 2000.
Ensign Werking’s first assignment was at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Oakland California where he was the Head of the Operating Management Department for four years. This was followed by his sea service deployment aboard the USS RANGER CV-61 as the Medical Division Officer which included 2 deployments to the Western Pacific Region. The next assignment was at the Naval Clinics Command in San Diego as the Head of the Branch Medical Clinic, Naval Station San Diego for 3 years. An overseas shore assignment followed with the U.S. Naval Forces Marianas where he was the Director for Administration at the Naval Dental Center, Guam for 2 years. Upon his return from Guam to the continental United States, he was assigned to the Naval Hospital, San Diego as Head of the Manpower/Personnel Department. Having received excellent reviews of his performance, Rex was chosen to support the United Nations forces as Director of Administration, Navy Fleet Hospital Six in Zegreb, Croatia during the Balkans Conflict for a 6 month assignment. Upon reassignment back in the States, he became the Head of the Security Department at the Naval Hospital in San Diego. His last tour of duty was at the Naval Dental Center, Gulf Coast in Pensacola, Florida as the Director of Administration. From here LCDR Rex D. Werking retired and entered a second career as a Private Security Consultant. Among the positions he held were that of a Contracts Supervisor with Kaiser Permanente Medical Operations, Southern California and later with several Department of Defense Contractors in San Diego County.
