Dale enlisted at age 17 during World War II and served as a Seaman aboard LCT 1400 in the Pacific Theater. He was discharged after the war. In 1952 and received a commission and served a a communications Officer. He retired after 25 year total service which included 8 years of foreign sea service. At sea he served in USS LOFTBERG (DD-759) and USS WASHBURN (AKA-108).
