Following in the footsteps of his father, Hugo Striler, a Navy veteran of WWII, LTC Raymond Striler joined the Army and served in the 10th Special Forces in Germany and as Team Leader of A-232, 5th Special Forces in the Vietnam War era. He earned his "Senior Jump Wings". Wounded in combat action, he was awarded the Purple Heart. After a training assignment, he returned to Vietnam as S-3 of the 5th/60th Infantry, leading his battalion into Cambodia.
