In 1968, "Jerry" Jones voluntered for duty in the Vietnam War, flying out of the Udorn Royal Thai Air Force Base. He flew the HH-53 Super Jolly Green Giant with the ARRS on combat search and rescue operations in Loas, South Vietnam, and North Vietnam.
