Lt. Colonel Harris earned a Silver Star for gallentry in action while serving as the Commanding Officer of B Company, 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry for his action in the An Lou Valley. He went on to serve his country as the Executive Office of the 2nd Battalion, 58th Infantry Brigade and Commandant of the Defense Information School during a 25 year career.
