Lieutenant Carroll Campbell was a Naval Aviator and served during WWII as a Squadron Commander for Torpedo Squadron 40. He was killed in action while leading his squadron during the Battle of Okinawa on 27 April 1945. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Distinguished Flying Cross x2.
His wife Esther Campbell also served in the Navy Nurse Corps at Naval Hospital Long Beach.
