Robert Keith Winther served in the Army Air Corp in WW II in the ETO and was shot down on September 12, 1944, while he was serving in a B17 over Berlin. He was a POW in Germany and was repatriated at an unknown date. I include a copy of the letter from NARA that accompanied his final pay record that confirms his service and narrates that his discharge certificate was located in the section of the building that was burned down in 1973. NARA confirms that the specific document is proof of service and of honorable discharge. Though it is difficult to read his name on this specific certificate his service number, 39710011, is quite legible. His medals and awards include the American Theater Ribbon, WWII Victory Medal, two Bronze Stars, and should have military records of having been a POW. This is the link to the NARA site that confirms Winther was a POW, https://aad.archives.gov/aad/display-partial-records.jsp?f=645&mtch=1&q=robert+k.+winther&cat=all&dt=3159&tf=F
And this website mentions him, also. https://www.americanairmuseum.com/archive/person/robert-k-winther
There are actually numerous online websites that confirm Winther was a POW in Germany. Here he is Bob Winther. https://b17flyingfortress.de/en/b17/42-31690-belle-of-the-brawl/
I do not have a photograph of Winther at the moment but if I can get one I can supply you with it.
The B 17 was named The Belle of the Brawl.
