Aircraft Commander, 1st Lt. Bill Bonnifield, flew the B-24, 98th Bomb Group, on 46 combat missions with the 15th Air Force in Italy, 1943-1946, earning the Distinguished Flying Cross, four Air Medals, two Presidential Unit citations and seven battle stars. He flew with the famous “Killer Kane” squadron, which made the original bomb attack on the Ploesti oil fields in Romania.
